Nollywood actor Odira Nwobu dies in South Africa aged 43

Nigerian actor, content creator and influencer Odira Nwobu has died in South Africa aged 43, his lawyer and the Actors' Guild of Nigeria have told the BBC.

News of his death has shocked many at home in Nigeria, prompting an outpouring of grief online from fans and colleagues alike for the Nollywood star who was in more than 60 films during his lifetime and was well-known for his comedic persona and babyface.

Nwobu's family have yet to comment publicly.

It is not yet known what caused the actor's death on Monday. A coroner's report was expected soon, his lawyer Chukwujiekwu Chukwudi said.

Videos appearing to show the lifeless body of the actor began circulating online on Monday, causing upset

Mr Chukwudi told the BBC's Igbo service that an ambulance was called to Nwobu's hotel in the town of Benoni, near Johannesburg, after he was discovered in his room "gasping for breath".

The actor was alone at the time, having returned from a night club where he had been with colleagues earlier in the evening, the lawyer said.

Paramedics attempted to keep Nwobu alive using a defibrillator, but he died at the scene before they could take him to hospital, he added.

Born in Nigeria's south-eastern state of Enugu in 1982, Odira Nwobu landed his first professional role - in a film called Joseph the Dreamer - straight out of secondary school.

He had a prolific career but struggled with feeling typecast, he told BBC News Igbo back in 2021, which made him turn to content creation as a way to find more freedom.

Across his TikTok, Instagram and YouTube accounts he amassed hundreds of thousands of followers.

At the time of his death, Nwobu had been visiting South Africa with a group of social media influencers in order to promote a real estate company belonging to a Nigerian, said president of the Actors' Guild of Nigeria Emeka Rollas.

Nwobu's lawyer had accompanied them as he is the legal adviser to the Nigerian firm that organised the trip.

"[We] were shocked to receive calls from Nigeria to confirm the passing away of the young man, while we were still debating how to break the news to his family," Mr Chukwudi said.

In July, Nwobu survived a road accident which at the time led many people to wrongly speculate that he had died.

The actor was not married and is not survived by any children, reports say.

In a series of posts on Facebook, he wrote: “God Why ! ODIRA why leave us… The Call I received now was not a good one. #Odiegwu.”

Another comedian, Evan Okoro, also posted a picture of Nwobu on her Facebook page saying, “How no I can’t believe this nooooo”.

A few months ago, DAILY POST reported that Nwobu was involved in a ghastly car accident.

In another post, Frankline wrote: “You were full of life even some hours ago in South Africa, and you even had your thanksgiving service just a few months ago. Many people came to celebrate with you.

How can you return from South Africa lifeless? Honestly, I am drowning in tears. De@th is Rude. I am heartbroken.”A viral video capturing the fatal accident had showed the moment bystanders were pulling victims from the wreckage.

Meanwhile, there hasn’t been any official statement by Nwobu’s family at the time of filing this report regarding his death.

No,Google AdSense will not approve a blog that facilitates the illegal downloading of copyrighted music.,

No, Google AdSense will not approve a blog that facilitates the illegal downloading of copyrighted music. This is a direct violation of their strict policies against copyrighted content and illegal activitie

Key Reasons for Denial:

Copyright Infringement: Google AdSense strictly prohibits any site that enables the unauthorized copying, sharing, or downloading of copyrighted materials, including music.

Illegal Content: Facilitating the download of pirated music is an illegal activity, and Google does not allow its ads on sites that promote illegal content or behavior.

Lack of Original Content: AdSense generally requires websites to have a significant amount of high-quality, original text content (e.g., expert reviews, unique articles, tutorials). A simple "music downloader" site typically lacks this original textual value, even if you add a small disclaimer.

Risk of Account Suspension: If you were to somehow get initial approval and then switch to a music downloader format, or if Google discovers the policy violation, your AdSense account could be suspended or terminated permanently.

How to Use Music Legally with AdSense:

AdSense is possible if you have the legal rights to the content

Own the Rights: You can monetize a site if you own the copyright to the music yourself (e.g., you are an independent artist sharing your own original recordings).

Obtain Licenses: You must have explicit, written permission or a license from the original copyright holders to distribute their music.

Add Value: If you provide legitimate reviews, background information, or critiques of music (without offering illegal downloads), you could be approved, provided you meet other AdSense requirements like having substantial original text content.

In short, a website whose primary function is to facilitate music downloads without proper authorization from the copyright holders will not be approved by Google AdSense.

AdMob is Google's mobile advertising platform that allows app developers to earn money by displaying ads within their apps. It works by connecting apps to millions of advertisers, serving relevant ads in various formats, and paying developers based on ad performance like clicks or impressions. Key features include automated monetization, access to a large advertiser ecosystem for potentially higher revenue, and detailed reporting to help developers track performance and make decisions.

How AdMob works

Create ad units: Developers define where and what type of ads will appear in their app by creating ad units within AdMob.

Serve ads: AdMob runs a real-time auction where advertisers bid to show their ads to users in the app. The highest bidder wins, and their ad is displayed in the designated space.

Pay developers: AdMob handles billing advertisers and pays developers for the ads shown. Payments are based on factors like impressions, clicks, or actions, depending on the campaign type.

Key features and benefits

Monetization: Turns apps into a source of revenue by connecting them to a large pool of advertisers.

High performance: Maximizes ad revenue by using advanced technology and a global advertiser network, which often results in more competitive bids.

Automated tools: Offers automated tools for monetization, making it easier for developers to manage ads.

Detailed reporting: Provides detailed reports on ad performance, allowing developers to analyze revenue, ad formats, countries, and more to optimize their strategy.

Ad formats: Supports various ad formats, such as banners, native ads, and rewarded videos, that can be integrated seamlessly into an app.

Cross-promotion: Includes "House ads" which allow developers to promote other apps within their family of apps for free.

Getting started and payment

Account setup: Developers need to sign up and can configure their account settings, including display language.

Payment verification: Once earnings reach a certain threshold, developers will need to provide personal information for verification to be able to receive payments. A PIN may be mailed to the developer's postal address for verification.

Payment tracking: Developers can track the progress of their payments on the "Payments" page in their AdMob account.

Nigerian separatist leader convicted on terrorism charges

Nigerian separatist leader convicted on terrorism charges

Kanu was not in court when the verdict was delivered, after being removed for unruly behaviour

Acourt in Nigeria has found separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu guilty of terrorism following a  legal case full of drama.

The court said it was satisfied that Kanu had made a series of broadcasts to incite violence and killings, as part of his campaign for a separate state in south-east Nigeria, known as Biafra.

Kanu has been convicted on all seven charges he faced - as well as terrorism, they included treason and involvement with an outlawed movement.

The court has adjourned, with the judge expected to hand down a sentencing later on Thursday. Kanu could face the death penalty, although this is rarely carried out in Nigeria.

Kanu always denied the charges and challenged the court's jurisdiction over him. At the start of the trial he sacked his lawyers but refused to defend himself.

Security around the court in the capital, Abuja, was tightened ahead of the verdict in case of protests by Kanu's supporters.

Once a relatively obscure figure, he came to national prominence in 2009 when he started Radio Biafra, a station that called for an independent state for the Igbo people, broadcast to Nigeria from London.

Though he grew up in south-eastern Nigeria, where he attended the University of Nsukka, Kanu moved to the UK before graduating, and acquired British nationality.

In 2014, he set up the Indigenous People Of Biafra (Ipob), a movement demanding independence.

Ipob was banned as a terrorist organisation in 2017. Its armed wing - the Eastern Security Network - has been accused of killings and other acts of violence in recent years.

Delivering his judgement, Judge James Omotosho said: "Mr Kanu knew what he was doing, he was bent on carrying out these threats without consideration to his own people.

"From the incontroverted evidence, it is clear that the defendant carried out preparatory act of terrorism.

"He had the duty to explain himself but failed to do so."

Kanu is a popular figure in his movement's heartland in south-eastern Nigeria, but reaction to the verdict there has so far been muted.

In court ahead of the ruling, Kanu insisted that proceedings could not continue because he had not yet filed his final written address, accusing the judge of bias and not understanding the law.

The judgement was delivered after Kanu had been forcibly removed from the courtroom for unruly behaviour.

He was first arrested in October 2015 but he jumped bail in 2017 and left the country after a military raid on his home. The court later revoked his bail in March 2019.

Two years later, the government announced that he had been re-arrested. His lawyers say he was detained in Kenya and forcibly returned to Nigeria. Kenya has not commented.

In 2022, an appeal court ordered that the charges against him be dropped, saying he had been illegally arrested abroad, but this ruling was overturned by the Supreme Court the following year.

The calls for Biafran independence date back many years.

In 1967 Igbo leaders declared a Biafran state, but after a brutal civil war, which led to the deaths of up to a million people, the secessionist rebellion was defeated.

Many Igbo people continue to feel that they are marginalised by the Nigerian state however, it is not clear how many are in favour of independence.
